And lots of software we might otherwise use simply will not interface CAT to another program we are using. The usual method of daisy-chaining programs works but is messy, as there's no standard for it, and some programs implement CAT chaining with DDE, or TCP or UDP ports, or some proprietary means and the first program in the chain (the one actually talking to the radio) must always be running to handle CAT from the second program. Setting long polling times will greatly reduce the frequency jumps (and make the OmniRig-controlled program very slow to respond). This is how how I figured out it's a CAT collision problem. One partial workaround that reduces these collisions is to simply reduce the polling time in OmniRig, setting it to 2000-4000 ms. Thus, I have to shut down my HDSDR panadapter to run flrig and/or fldigi. This does not work with flrig or RigCat or even fldigi's hamlib because there is no OmniRig "rig" in the hamlib used in fldigi. For example, in my case I use HDSDR (with an RSP1a) as a panadapter, on OmniRig Rig1, and can also run also run WSJT-X or JS8Call via a hamlib "rig" called "OmniRig Rig2", and they both run fine without collisions. Let one program talk to Rig1 and the other talk to Rig2 (which are, in this case, the same radio). However, OmniRig will buffer and separate commands, but only if two programs are both using OmniRig, if used as follows: set both Rig1 and Rig2 to the same rigfile and port (req. Routing CAT is a difficult problem, as it isn't packetized, and was never designed to allow 2 or more programs to talk to the radio at the same time. This is caused by CAT data collisions, i.e., VSPE doesn't buffer or route, it just blends CAT commands/responses together, making a mess of the data. Frequency jumps around every little while. Howdy David, I have the same problem when running any program with OmniRig while running flrig, or fldigi with RigCat, with both connected to a VPSE virtual serial port tee.
